Silk Way Rally – Despres confirms on the 7th stage

The last special stage contested before the highly anticipated passage to China, the seventh stage of the Silk Way Rally once again saw the domination of Peugeot Sport and the 2008 DKR16. Cyril Despres, over the 76 km of sectors against the clock on the Kazakh highlands, set the best time in 1h02'44, ahead of his teammate Sébastien Loeb 2'46".

Vladimir Vasilyev (Mini) takes third place at 4'10" and precedes another Mini ALL4, that of Harry Hunt. Less success for Stephane Peterhansel, who lost more than 7′ on his Peugeot 2008 DKR16 after encountering an engine alert, and finishing in degraded mode. Overall, Despres saw his lead increase beyond 10′ over Sébastien Loeb, with Vladimir Vasilyev remaining in ambush at 14′.

The competitors will cross the Chinese border at the end of the timed sector to reach the Bortala bivouac, in the autonomous region of Xinjiang. In sight now, the first kilometers in China, culminating in the passage through the Gobi desert.
