Silk Way Rally – Desprès gets closer to victory

Cyril Desprès (Peugeot ) is getting closer to victory at the Silk Way Rally. The driver of the 2008 DKR16 has a lead of more than 31 minutes over his direct opponent Yazeed Al Rajhi (Mini) at the end of the penultimate stage won by his teammate Stéphane Peterhansel.

The multiple winner of the event completed the 724,89km course in 4h50'05 with a 3'27 lead over Vladimir Vasilyev (Mini), while leader Cyril Desprès set the third time at 5'40, ahead of by almost a minute the Saudi. Sebastian Loeb (Peugeot) completed the top five at 7’40.

Cyril Desprès is still ahead of a group of Mini drivers made up of Yazeed Al Rajhi, Vladimir Vasilyev, Harry Hunt and Aidyn Rakhimbayev. Han Wei (SMG ORC) follows in sixth place ahead of Bauyrzhan Issabayev. Sébastien Loeb is only in eighth place following his four-hour penalty received the day before.

“We started 15th and so we started behind the trucks. The track was broken, there was no progress in the dunes. With the sand stirred, we sat for five minutes. We could hardly have done better given the situation,” commented the nine-time champion of WRC.
