At the end of last year, the management of Spa-Francorchamps decided to undertake a major project on the entire circuit. The aim was then to improve safety for the drivers, modernize the route but also its installations to offer better comfort to spectators and a second life for certain infrastructures.

For example, the clearances located to the right and left of the summit of Raidillon have been widened to offer better safety to competitors in the event of leaving the track. Other bends saw gravel traps replacing the asphalt on the outside, such as Les Combes or Blanchimont.

Concerning the comfort of the spectators, we note the appearance, already planned, of a grandstand on the left side of the Raidillon replacing the famous chalet at the summit but also the disappearance of the one which was facing the pit lane ofEndurance in the descent of the Source.

Finally, the 7,004 kilometers of Spa-Francorchamps have been resurfaced in preparation for this new year of competition.

The first big race planned in this “new” Spa-Francorchamps takes place on May 7 with the 6 Hours of Spa in WEC.
