World RX – The United States in the viewfinder

Between Europe, Africa, with the new Cape Town in South Africa, and North America, the World RX remains present on three continents, but aims to expand its calendar in the future.

Asia could have been a potential destination for the IMG-run World Championship, but Paul Bellamy, the organization's director of promotion, is eyeing another addition for his series.

« Above all, we would like to have an event in the United States, declared Bellamy on the sidelines of the Montalegre event in Portugal last weekend.

We will obviously manage to avoid having a clash of dates with the Global Rallycross Championship, which we do not see as a competitor, but on the contrary as a championship which helps to promote the discipline in America.

We are already proud of our visit to South Africa, because we are the only motorsport world championship to go to this country.

We are also in discussions to go to Asia, but it is more complicated because they do not yet have the necessary infrastructure for our discipline. »

Towards a new round outside Europe?

Paul Bellamy also admits that the calendar should include changes in the future, in particular with the double event in Germany between Hockenheim and Estering, which the FIA ​​does not like according to the head of IMG.

“We should also only have one event in Germany, because the FIA ​​does not like us going to the same country twice and we would no longer benefit from joint meetings with the DTM. We could replace this event with a round outside of Europe. »
