Lancia will always hold a special place in the hearts of rally fans. The beginning of its legend was written 50 years ago, with the first international title won by the Turin firm, following an unexpected victory for Sandro Munari in Monte-Carlo.

En 1972, le Championnat International des rallyes pour marques entame sa 3e et dernière saison (voir Ah 2251 et 2294), avant de muer en véritable championnat du monde. Porsche et Alpine-Renault won the first two editions, their GTs being more efficient than the Lancia Fulvia HF or the Ford Escort RS. Made up of ten events, the championship promises to be quite disjointed. Manufacturers prefer to target rallies corresponding to the characteristics of their models or their commercial interests. In these conditions, it is difficult to name a favorite. The prestigious Monte-Carlo attracts all the protagonists.
