Let it be said, the 2023 edition of the prestigious Goodwood Revival (September 8-10) will highlight Carroll Shelby. The winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans 1959, which should have celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023, will be honored with a gathering of all the cars imagined by the American engineer, who died in 2012.
Carroll Shelby was a regular at the Goodwood Revival, and even races held on the 3,809 km circuit. “Goodwood held a very special place in my grandfather’s heart”, said Aaron Shelby, board member of Carroll Shelby International.
“He participated as pilot of a Aston Martin and returned to race the circuit with Shelby American team cars in the 1960s. Carroll attended the Goodwood Revival with his Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, and as a World War II aviator he particularly admired the exhibition of old planes. We are honored that the Duke of Richmond and his team have chosen to honor Carroll's 100th birthday this year. We are looking forward to a wonderful weekend at Goodwood Revival. »
The Duke of Richmond, Grand Master of Ceremonies, declared: “It is such a privilege to celebrate Carroll Shelby at the Goodwood Revival this year. He was a good friend and I remember when Carroll first came to the Revival in 2000 – after racing and winning at Goodwood in the Tourist Trophy in 1959 – bringing with him his personality and competitive spirit. It will be wonderful to see these magnificent cars that Carroll designed and raced in action at Goodwood once again over the weekend. »
