It had already been announced for Le Mans Classic 2020, before Covid-19 disrupted Peter Auto's plans. But for the return of the historic event in Sarthe (June 30-July 3), the Mazda 787B Group C, victorious in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991, will indeed be present!
It is one of the most legendary cars in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will celebrate its centenary in 2023. The Mazda 787B is one of the prototypes most loved by the public, due to its exceptional rotary engine. . The sound of the 2 cm atmospheric quadcopter delivering 616 horsepower at 700 rpm, is one of the rare melodies that can make the public's hair stand up wherever it is taken for demonstration.
The last time that the Mazda with the orange and green livery of Johnny Herbert, Volker Weidler and Bertrand Gachot returned to Sarthe was in 2011 just before the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Johnny Herbert took the wheel again on this occasion, and the videos recorded several million views on YouTube as the demonstration was so memorable:
On the occasion of the 2022 Le Mans Classic, this Mazda will return to the Circuit des 24 Heures before the Group C Racing races during a demonstration. The field celebrating the 40th anniversary of this category of prototypes will include nearly fifty vehicles, and not the least: Peugeot 905, Jaguar XJR, Porsche 962, etc
