Current aspiring drivers can only take example from two (very) distant elders who made their way onto the starting grids in F1: Maria Teresa de Filippis and Lella Lombardi.

The cold statistics are not complimentary to women. In seventy-four years of World Championship Formula 1, five women attempted to qualify for a Grand Prix: Maria Teresa de Filippis (1958 and 1959), Lella Lombardi (1974 to 76), Divina Galica (1976, 78), Desiré Wilson (1980) and Giovanna Amati (1992) . Among this meager contingent, only the first two mentioned managed to access a round of the Championship.
