Find the Rétromobile 2022 show guide

They were carefully transported by their owners, museums, dealers or manufacturers, and polished to shine brightly under the spotlights of pavilions 7.2 and 7.3 of Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. They are the hundreds of old cars, often rare, sometimes exclusive, the real stars of the Salon Rétromobile, which opens this Wednesday March 16 and closes Sunday evening. Canceled in 2021, due to coronavirus, the 46^e edition promises to mark the retina of spectators, especially if they go to the Lamborghini stand. The Polo Storico division of the Bull of Sant'Agata Bolognese presents the very first Countach chassis built, the LP 500 from 1971. The descendant of the Miura, sparkling in its yellow dress, was recently restored after 25 hours of work.

One of the unmissable exhibitions will be dedicated to Amédée Gordini. All the “Sorcerer” creations will be brought together in the same hall, thanks to the Schlumpf Collection, based in Mulhouse, and the historian Christian Huet. The Gordini saga will open with the Spider Simca 5, imagined in 1937 and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans the same year, in the 750 cm engine category³. Other boats will make the trip from the Alsatian Automobile Museum, such as the Simca 8 or the 43 type 31S, all victorious in the Sarthe in their respective classes. Lovers of Formula 1 will not be left out. The 35 Type 16 as well as the 42 Type 32 will be there. These single-seaters were less successful, but their blue dress managed to capture the imagination of F1 in the 1950s. In coordination with Renault, Gordini will then roam the French circuits with his famous “Cupes” thanks to modified R8s and R12s. They will also be reunited.

Rétromobile is traditionally accompanied by an auction by Artcurial, this will take place in two stages, on Friday and Saturday from 15 p.m., as the number of lots put up for sale is staggering: 372! The highlight of the show will undoubtedly be the Gordini Type 18S, passed into the hands of Juan Manuel Fangio and entered in the 24 1950 Hours of Le Mans for the future five-time F1 world champion (1951, 1954 to 1957), and his compatriot José Froilan Gonzalez. Even if it was forced to abandon, one of the two Type 18S still in existence is exceptional, due to its notoriety, but also its state of conservation. The period upholstery is preserved and it features the only Gordini compressor engine in existence! No wonder its valuation is between 800 and 000 million euros. Even more prestigious, a Porsche 907 should fetch, according to estimates, between 4 and 6 million euros! Chassis 031 competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times and finished 4^e of the 1 km of the Nürburgring 000 with Jochen Neerpasch and Joe Buzzeta.

Prices: €21 in pre-sale on the website until March 15 inclusive then €22 always via internet, €24 at the show, free for children under 12 years old.
