The 26rd edition of Historic Monte-Carlo Rally sent a nice nod to the history of the winter meeting. Two weeks after the victory of Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe in the version WRC, it was another Belgian duo who won in the version reserved for vintage cars.
Aboard their 400 Opel Ascona 1979, Michel Decremer and Jennifer Hugo dominated the event, leading from Saturday afternoon until nightfall at the Col de Turini the following Tuesday without interruption.
Michel Decremer, already victorious in 2017 in an Opel Ascona 2000, and his co-driver, for only their second rally together, have never weakened: no place beyond 55th (out of more than 200 competitors), never more than 60 penalty points conceded, in the 16 Regularity Specials (SR) contested over four days.
It was certainly a long and trying rally for the crews and organizers, but the support of the populations throughout the route warmed the heart, in all the departments crossed, from Ardèche to Drôme, from 'Isère to the Hautes-Alpes, from Haute-Loire to the Alpes de Haute-Provence, with the Alpes-Maritimes to finish, in the great tradition of Monte-Carlo, near the legendary Col de Turini.
This 26th Monte-Carlo Historic Rally attracted large crowds everywhere and reassured all fans of old-fashioned motorsport, old racing cars and charming and approachable drivers, never short of anecdotes and good stories. . It was a great vintage, so look forward to 2025 to experience an even more successful rally!
