This will be one of the most striking images of this 90e edition of the 24 Hours, if not the most striking. At around 10:00 a.m. this Sunday, while trying to overtake one of the Algarve Racing cars on the Hunaudières straight, François Perrodo (Oreca 07 No. 63 – AF Corse) collided with the No. 64 Corvette driven by Alexander Sims and sent him against the safety rails on the left side of the track.
Oh the crash of Corvette #64 in GTE Pro! In the running for overall victory, the car driven by Alexander Sims was hit by an LMP2! # LeMans24 pic.twitter.com/TqzL9qc92s

Result ? Immediate retirement for the No. 64 Corvette whose sister car, the No. 63, had thrown in the towel a few minutes earlier. An action which caused the distress of François Perrodo, sad to have put an end to the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2022 from the Detroit mount. Embarrassed by the situation, the French driver, barely out of his LM P2, went to the American box to apologize.

Almost employee by employee, François Perrodo kept making excuses. “ I'm sorry guys, he said with a marked face. There are no words. » A gesture welcomed by the Corvette clan, inevitably disappointed by the abandonment of the No. 64 but far from being resentful in the face of the kindness and class of the Habs who never meant them harm.
