BMW tests new drivers on the M Hybrid V8 LMDh

The M Hybrid V8 LMDh goes on for miles, but BMW plays the modesty card, preferring not to present itself at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2023, centenary edition, for fear of not being sufficiently ready. However, the German manufacturer continues to drive this summer of 2022 in order to be at the top of its preparation for the 24 2023 Hours of Daytona, in January, the opening round of the championship IMSA.

For this, BMW has just completed five days of intensive testing on the Spanish track of Barcelona with three new drivers from its “stock”: Augusto Farfus (, Marco Wittmann (double champion DTM) and Nick Yelloly (24 2020 Hours of Nürburgring winner). In support, Sheldon van der Linde, who had already participated in the shakedown of the prototype designed in collaboration with Dallara in Italy (Varano), was also requisitioned. As a reminder, van der Linde then shared this first run with Connor De Philippi.

This session in Barcelona can be considered the first dedicated to the real search for performance with the updating – and resolution – of the technical problems inherent with this more aggressive program with the mechanics. From now on, the BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh should cross the Atlantic to continue its tests on American circuits with its future operating team, RLL, so that mechanics and engineers can grasp all its secrets.

To see this BMW racing in competition in Europe, you will have to wait until 2024, an agreement having already been announced with the Belgian WRT team for an entry in the world championship.Endurance for this season.
