The Barcelona meeting replaced by an event at Castellet

After a championship opening at Paul Ricard last month, the competitors of theELMS will return to the Castellet track on August 29 and 30 for the third meeting of the 2020 season. A return to the Var necessary, since faced with the health measures taken in Catalonia in the face of the strengthening of the coronavirus pandemic, the ACO has decided not to go to the Barcelona circuit at the end of the month.

The four-hour Catalan round will thus be replaced by a race of the same duration in the South-East of France, still behind closed doors. “This is a complicated and uncertain period where we must react by trying to best guarantee the safety of each person working in the ELMS paddock, which is our absolute priority, indicates Gérard Neveu, boss of the ELMS.

The current situation regarding COVID-19 in Spain has therefore logically led us to act in this direction. The level of risk is high enough in Catalonia to justify restrictive measures upon return. The teams may not be able to apply these measures (fortnight type) a few weeks before 24 Hours of Le Mans. These changes are not pleasant for anyone but once again it is the health situation to date which dictates these exceptional conditions. »

The continental series will travel to Belgium this weekend for the 4 Hours of Spa, one week before the 6 Hours event, counting towards the World Championship.Endurance and where certain training courses taking part in the ELMS will be present.
