Rossi, a first victory with BMW to prepare for Le Mans 2024

Among the multitude of pilots who came for the Centenary edition of 24 Hours of Le Mans, one seems to have attracted particular attention. However, it is not a representative of the Hypercar, LMP2 or GTE Am category but rather a competitor of the Road To Le Mans, the double round of the clock support race: Valentino Rossi.

And the least we can say is that the Italian did very well. In fact, he signed the 2^e qualifying time for Race 1 while his teammate took pole position for Race 2 at the wheel of the No. 4 BMW M3 GT46 of Team WRT.

In Race 1, the duo of the No. 46 had no success after a collision during the second stint. Luckily, Race 2 smiled on Valentino Rossi and Jérôme Policand, who left with victory this Friday.

« We are very happy to have won. It was the first victory with BMW, and it was also a great experience to come here to prepare for the next 24 Hours, advance the Transalpine. We had good pace since Thursday morning and in qualifying, but we were a bit unlucky in the first race so we wanted to get on the podium in the second. Jérôme had a very good first stint, and we were finally able to win. I had good pace and was able to make good overtakes. We are very, very happy."

Is Valentino Rossi advancing a participation in the next 24 Hours of Le Mans with the return of BMW? The possibility is real since the Italian is an official driver of the German manufacturer. Present in the Sarthe paddock, Andreas Roos, director of the sporting branch of the Munich firm, confirmed to us that the former driver of MotoGP will test LMDh in the future. However, participation in the Hypercar category seems premature. Rossi could, however, take advantage of the arrival of GT3 to finally take the start of the Le Mans classic.
