Patrick Pouyanné named Starter of the 24 2022 Hours of Le Mans

The Chairman and CEO of the energy group TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné, will lower the tricolor flag to launch the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 11-12). An act with a much heavier meaning than we think.

End of wait. THE 24 Hours of Le Mans 2022 finally have their Starter. On June 11 at 15:00 p.m., Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of the energy group TotalEnergies, will give the starting signal for the 90th edition of the Le Mans double clock tower.

In its capacity as the exclusive technical partner of all ACO-certified championships in terms of energy, the TotalEnergies group is the leading player in the ecological transition driven by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest to meet its carbon neutrality objective. . These are not empty words, actions have accompanied the promises, since Total has been supplying a fuel since 2022 – Excellium Racing 100 – containing no fossil molecules and certified 100% sustainable (see Explanations on pages 96-97 ). Total is also one of the first technical partners of the Mission H24 project (P. 98-99) operating using a fuel cell powered by hydrogen made from 100% renewable energy. Again a concrete project since Mission H24 is already competing in the European Le Mans Series championship and will be at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025.

« TotalEnergies supports its customers and partners in their developments by rolling out its strategy in competition: sustainable liquid fuels, electricity, batteries, hybridization, hydrogen... Advanced biofuels undeniably have their part to play in advancing the transport sector by immediately reducing its CO emissions2. This 100% renewable fuel, made available to motorsport from 2022, is an illustration of this. At a time of our transformation into a multi-energy company, the track is more than ever proving to be a real open-air laboratory for TotalEnergies »

Patrick Pouyanné, a fervent defender of technological advances, which will enable motorsport to meet the difficult challenge of global warming, shares the same values of permanent progress dear to the Automobile Club de l'Ouest since 1923.
