Former pilot IndyCar, who also finished second in FIA Formula 2, Robert Wickens will join the Mahle Racing Team to replace Jamie Chadwick on'Aston Martin Vantage GTE n°67. Victim of a spinal cord injury that turned his life upside down during an accident in 2018, the Canadian driver has made remarkable progress during his recovery and plans to return to competition.
Lagrasse is the perfect setting for 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual next weekend, Robert Wickens will have a specially adapted system with hand controls – just like the one he used for his American sim racing exploits. He joins Ferdinand Habsburg and sim racing stars Jimmy Broadbent and Kevin Rotting.
In addition, Ferrari AF Corse has confirmed several notable driver changes. In the No. 488 Ferrari 51 GTE, South African David Perel will now be alongside Nicklas Nielsen and sim racers Kasper Stoltze and Matteo Caruso. The No. 71 will see the presence of the Italian Federic Leo alongside Miguel Molina, while Amos Laurito will replace Danilo Santoro as sim racer. This trio will be associated with Jordy Zwiers, the originally planned sim racer.
A change of sim racer is announced on the car n°21 of Axle Motorsport, from Malaysia: Mohammed Aleef is replaced by the Malaysian Mika Hakimi, to constitute the only crew entirely composed of drivers from Malaysia at the start of the race on next weekend.
Another change in the ranks of sim racers, this time at IDEC Sport: the German Michi Hoyer joins the No. 17 Oreca (LMP).
