Bad times for the video game industry. A few weeks after the troubles of Motorsport Games (stopping of development of the game IndyCar and BTCC), the Electronic Arts juggernaut is parting ways with a certain number of employees, particularly in its branch dedicated to motorsports, Codemasters.
After purchasing Codemasters at the start of 2021, EA Sports reigns over the world of legendary motorsport video game licenses, such as EA Sports WRC et F1. However, the climate is not good, because layoffs take place just before the end-of-year holiday period. EA refuses to justify this decision by the results of its two games F1 23 and EA Sports WRC in 2023.
“Our business is constantly evolving as we strive to deliver extraordinary games and services that keep our players engaged, connected and inspired, declares a spokesperson to the site IGN.
Sometimes this requires the company to make small-scale organizational changes to align our teams and resources to meet changing business needs and priorities. We continue to work closely with those affected by these changes, providing appropriate support throughout this process. »
However, EA's financial results are positive. EA's latest financial report includes total revenue of $1,9 billion for the quarter ending September 30, 2023, and $7,593 billion for the preceding 12 months, up slightly from 2022, with a forecast between $7,3 billion and $7,7 billion for the fiscal year ending March 2024.
