Formula E launches its virtual championship

Esport is gaining ground in the world of electric cars. There Formula E decided to launch its Formula E Accelerate championship, based on the Race At Home Challenge, which had kept the drivers busy during confinement in 2020.

Over the course of six events, 24 rising stars from the world of motorsport and esports will compete in the rFactor2 game, used in particular for 24 Hours of Le Mans virtual. Blending the real and virtual worlds, each competitor will score Formula E Accelerate points for a real-life Formula E team. Virtual Drivers will also receive expert advice, mentoring and other talent development opportunities from the team they are attached to.

Competitors will have to deal with new Energy Management and Attack Mode features during the Online E-Prix. Before the competition, there will be online qualifying open to the public with the three fastest times on the Berlin E-Prix circuit to earn places on the virtual Formula E Accelerate grid.

Everyone who competes in all six races will receive a share of a minimum prize pool of €100, with the overall winner earning a test in a Formula E car.

There will be two additional virtual races, each featuring 12 real-life Formula E drivers, one per racing team, during the fourth round and grand finale of Formula E Accelerate. The points from these races will be added to the team's general ranking.

 The calendar :

– Round 1: January 28
– Round 2: February 4
– Round 3: February 11
– Round 4: March 11
– Round 5: March 18
– Grand Final: March 25 (double points)
