Lohan Blanc: “If I could make a living from my passion, it would be the dream”

How do you qualify for eSports WRC ?

All you need to do is have the WRC 8 game on Playstation 4, Xbox One or PC and participate in the event online on the dates provided. Then, you have to finish in the top eight to play in the final. Several teams are present and they recruit at the start of the season. You can send them a request to join them, but you generally have to have a very good level.

What pushed you to launch into this universe?

I got into Esports in 2016. I had been playing racing games for a long time, and when I saw that there was competition in the WRC game, I decided to train and I qualified among the 18 best players in the world out of more than 6000 participants.

What is your view on the development of Esports? Do you think it will grow even more and outpace, or even replace, traditional motorsport?

I only see the positive. It is an increasingly recognized discipline which has become a sport like any other and which is becoming professional. Esports has grown significantly over the last three years. From 6 players in 000, there were 2016 last year for the WRC.

However, I don't think that Esport will overtake or replace traditional motorsport. These are two different, but complementary, practices. The simulator allows real drivers and engineers to test the settings of their cars on virtual circuits at a lower cost and the simulation racing game allows all enthusiasts to experience the sensation of driving close to reality at a lower cost.

Are you looking to make a career in Simracing? If so, do you think you can make a living from this passion?

If I could make a living from my passion, it would be the dream. I have been professional since 2018 after joining Team LDLC OL. I intend to continue competing as long as my level allows me. I am currently continuing my studies in video game programming. And then outside of training, weekends of rally and from school I play other games like the games series F1.

Have you been able to test a rally car in real life since our last interview?

No, unfortunately I didn't have that chance, but my baptism in Spain with Dani Sordo at the end of October really made me want it!

Passionate about the history of motorsport across all disciplines, I learned to read thanks to AUTOhebdo. At least that's what my parents tell everyone when they see my name inside!
