F1 2020 test – A great evolution without revolution

As indicated by his name, F1 2020 is the official game of the F1 World Championship. This means that you will find all the drivers and teams from the current season, which started last weekend in Austria. But that's not all, since the title also offers the 2 Formula 2019 field as well as 20 F1s that have marked history.

Note that this opus is placed under the sign of Michael Schumacher in its Deluxe version : it is thus possible for you to board the Jordan 191 from 1991, the Benetton B194 and 195 as well as other glories of the queen discipline such as the McLaren MP4/4 or even the Ferrari F190. Now that the introductions are done, let's move on to what interests us: the game.

What's new ?

For those of you who know the series, the big news is the My Team mode. To put it simply: you are one of the two drivers and the team manager of the 11th team on the field. You will therefore give a name to your team, create the decoration of your single-seaters, choose an engine from the four available, sign with a title sponsor and off you go for an adventure which can last up to ten seasons.

Obviously, you have objectives to fulfill so that your team progresses and can aim for the first places on the grid. In fact, this offline mode immerses you in an adventure, yours and that of your team. Between each Grand Prix weekend, you can do R&D, train your drivers, carry out marketing operations, etc. Depending on your results, you will be able to change engine manufacturer or hire a second driver.


In My Team mode you will have to create your decoration.

If you are an F1 enthusiast, you will spend hours playing the game as this mode is so immersive. As for the race weekends themselves, it is possible to do them as in reality with all the free practice sessions, the qualifying (Q1,Q2,Q3) and of course the race with the true number of revolutions. You can also adapt everything with, for example, a qualifying over 1 lap and the race over 5 laps or 25% of the distance, it's up to you.

During each free practice session, you must complete different objectives (which earn you points) such as reconnaissance of the circuit to be on the correct trajectory, tire wear tests or prepare for your qualification on red tires (Soft). This allows you to have, just like real drivers, a driving program during free practice.


In My Team mode, you can choose any driver. You have to have the means!

In the car

In the world of simracing, Codemasters' F1 series is not considered a pure simulation (ask Verstappen !). However, once the driving aids are removed, you can fully enjoy the racing sensations. In addition, managing the ERS, pit stops, racing tires and even the strategy to adopt make the game very immersive. With five piloting views (all adjustable), you will definitely have fun on the track and that’s the main thing!

Our opinion

No revolution for those who know the series, but great developments with the My Team and Championship modes. This year, Codemasters offers a successful game that will make you spend hours behind the wheel. If F1 is your passion, you will find what you are looking for here.

Initially you have to manage your clutch to find the right engine speed.

It's up to you to develop your strategy before departure. However, depending on the events in the race, your engineer can offer you another one in real time.
