French drivers in F1 – Philippe Alliot

In 1978, Philippe Alliot became French Formula champion Renault. It’s the year of the French team F1, with seven French drivers, all capable of winning Grands Prix. The French promotion system bore fruit with this blessed era, but the future appears blocked for those who arrive next. Alain Prost will be the exception. Philippe Alliot started at the same time as him, but without the experience of karting. He is the leader of this “next generation” which also includes Philippe Streiff, Jean-Louis Schlesser and the Ferté brothers, Alain and Michel. Third in the European Championship F3 1981 on a Martini/Oreca, Philippe Alliot repeated the following year, where victory in Monaco was snatched from him by his teammate Alain Ferté following a collision at Loews.
