Broc Feeney replaces Jamie Whincup at Red Bull Ampol Racing in 2022

The Triple Eight Race Engineering team announced in a press release the replacement of Jamie Whincup by Broc Freeney at Red Bull Ampol Racing from the 2022 Supercars season. The seven-time champion will thus leave his place to the young 18-year-old Australian driver, currently leading the Super2 series with four victories in six races at the wheel of the Holden Commodore VF number 888 and former Series 3 champion. “This is an incredible opportunity for me to replace the GOAT, Jamie Whincup. It's so surreal for me right now, but I think I'll start realizing early next year,” enthused the native of Gold Coast, city from where the Doohan family is also native. “Being aligned with this incredible team in my Super2 season and being promoted to the main series is a dream come true. To be honest, I've always wanted to go into Supercars, but being behind the wheel of a Red Bull Ampol Racing machine is pretty exciting. The Super2 season was a very important year for me. I knew at the start of the year that there was an opportunity to replace Jamie, and it all depended on my results this year. Getting four wins out of six this season and winning two rounds out of three was a great opportunity for me, and now it feels like a great reward.", adds the Australian.

“This is obviously big news for Triple Eight. It is also a factor of well-being for me and for the shareholders to give a young person the opportunity to occupy one of the best places in the category and to prove themselves”, confided outgoing driver Jamie Whincup, future managing director of Triple Eight Race Engineering. “We are not a team that takes things cautiously. We take risks at Triple Eight, we are in the spotlight and it seemed right to give Broc the opportunity. Of course there is an element of skill, but more important than that, especially for me, you need someone with a good mentality and attitude who knows the definition of hard work. Broc ticks all those boxes, but now it's up to us to make sure we give him a fantastic car and build a fantastic team around him. »
