From Pasquale goes on to SMP, first victory for Brown

Author of his 2nd pole position of the weekend in Sydney, Anton De Pasquale showed once again that Sydney Motorsport Park is his home. After winning four times in the previous 7 races at SMP, the Dick Johnson Racing driver did it again this Sunday.

Once again on pole, Anton De Pasquale made a good start while maintaining his position in the face of attacks from his teammate Will Davison. Quickly detached from the rest, ADP had a one second lead over his partner and a little more than 3 over 3rd, Jamie Whincup, after 7 laps of racing.

With the refueling window open, Anton De Pasquale dove into the pits at the end of lap 14 to fit four new tires on his Ford Mustang. Emerging behind Will Davison, who had passed through his garage four laps previously, the pole-sitter saw the gap disappear lap after lap until he regained his right at the start of the 20th lap.

In great form, Anton De Pasquale pushed his teammate back to 3" on the 5th lap and took advantage of the fights behind him to make his way. 25nd for a long time behind his partner, Will Davison was struggling at the end of the race and saw Jamie Whincup (Triple Eight), Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United) and Shane van Gisbergen (Triple Eight) grilling him as they approached the checkerboard.

Well helped by this fight in his mirrors, Anton De Pasquale was going to cross the finish line with more than 6 seconds ahead of Jamie Whincup while Shane van Gisbergen stole 3rd place from Chaz Mostert on the starting line /arrival !

Brown, the glory day

Very successful since the resumption at SMP, Will Brown (Erebus Motorsport) had not been able to materialize his efforts until now to climb to the top step. It's done now.

Starting from 4th row, Will Brown overtook Anton De Pasquale from the outside at turn 1. In the process, the Erebus Motorsport driver stayed just over a second behind leaders Jamie Whincupe and Shane van Gisbergen .

Stuck behind the Triple Eight drivers, Will Brown then decided to attempt the undercut and fitted two new tires at the end of the 13th lap. A strategy paid off as he found himself in front of Jamie Whincup when he left the pit lane three laps later.

In good shape when he was finally able to compete for the win, Will Brown saw Shane van Gisbergen, leader since the lead group stopped, come out behind him. A fight then followed between the men of Triple Eight, directly benefiting the Erebus driver who widened the gap with them.

Suffering in the final straight due to an early stop, Will Brown saw the two Triple Eight drivers come back to less than half a second at the start of the last lap. Under pressure, the rookie managed to maintain his lead to score his first victory and become the 82nd different winner in Supercars history while Nick Percat and Todd Hazelwood of Brad Jones Racing completed the Top 5.
