The weekend couldn't have started better for Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United) in Adelaide where the final round of the 2022 Supercars season is taking place. However, everything did not look easy for “Chazzie” who, despite a good top speed since the start of the meeting, missed out during the Top 10 Qualifying Shootout (7e time) where Cameron Waters (Tickford) had taken pole position.
On the track, the race also seemed promised to Cameron Waters. On his Ford Mustang decked out in Monster colors, the Tickford Racing driver perfectly resisted the pressure put on by Scott Pye (Team 18) during most of the event. Nothing could then deprive him of a 4e victory. Nothing except Shane van Gisbergen (Triple Eight). In difficulty on the streets of Adelaide this Saturday, the double reigning champion lost control of his Holden Commodore at turn 11 causing the Safety Car to intervene. A situation that would reshuffle all the cards since Cameron Waters was going to lose big!

Discreet since the lights went out, Chaz Mostert took control of the race when Anton de Pasquale (Dick Johnson Racing) dove into the pits for his last refueling at 53e round. Behind him, Cameron Waters tried everything to get back to the leading group but his dive on Macauley Jones (Brad Jones Racing) made him lose all hope of victory. A godsend for the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver who, rid of poleman and Shane van Gisbergen, was heading towards his 5e victory of the year, the first since the Triple Crown of Darwin last June! On the podium, his teammate Nick Percat accompanied him, rediscovering the joys of the box after a year of absence. James Courtney (Tickford Racing) completed the Top 3 while Cameron Waters placed 13e.
