Supercars is back on the Melbourne track (a first since 2019, editor's note) this weekend where he will perform as a curtain raiser for Formula 1. After the social affairs of the old woman where Fernando Alonso and Checo Perez tried their hand at Supercars, the competition began this Friday with the first of the 4 races on the meeting program from which Chaz Mostert emerged victorious.

With 4 races contested, Supercars will have a slightly different philosophy this weekend. More sprint style than endurance, these rounds will allow drivers to showcase their overtaking qualities. In this little game Chaz Mostert, who was the first leader of the season (after the Sydney meeting, editor's note), was the best. Starting from third position, the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver took advantage of the tire setbacks of Anton de Pasquale and Will Davison (Dick Johnson Racing), to score his 2nd victory of the season (his 18th career and his third in Melbourne, editor's note ). “Mozzie” won ahead of pole sitter David Reynolds (Whole grained Racing) and an incredible Shane Van Gisbergen (Triple Eight) who started 23rd. The reigning champion admitted to never having had so much fun in a race.

This 20-lap race came down to tire wear. The big losers are Davison and De Pasquale who had made the bet to start on soft tires, thinking that the wear would be easy to manage with few laps to negotiate. Unfortunately for them, between additional pit stops and dying tires, the two Ford Mustang drivers finished in 16th and 23rd places respectively. In the opposite direction, SVG once again had a conquering race in which he showed all his competitive qualities, chaining overtakes until the last turns. His podium allows him to logically retain the lead in the general classification. There are 3 races remaining this weekend. Will Davison will start on pole in race 2 and Pasquale in race 3, a great opportunity for the DJR drivers to forget a catastrophic start to the meeting.
