The time for recovery has come for Michael Masi. First removed from his position as race director of the F1 after the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last December and the coronation of Max Verstappen then gently pushed towards exit within the FIA, the Australian will return to service for Australia this time.

While he wishes “ relocating to Australia to be closer to family and take on new challenges, » Michael Masi has been appointed chairman of the Supercars Commission, the Australian Touring Championship, with immediate effect.

« I see this new role as a continuation of the incredible work Neil has already accomplished (Crompton, former pilot and now presenter) and the Commission to bring Supercars into a whole new era with the introduction of the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang Gen3, told Michael Massi.

I am very proud to have been appointed to this role and look forward to working with the sport's key stakeholders to secure an exciting future for our teams, our partners, our sponsors and, most importantly, our fans."

Masi, back to basics

This appointment is not surprising. When announcing his departure from the FIA last July, Michael Masi indicated that he wanted to return home to Australia. Here he is back at home in a championship that he knows very well.

Michael Masi has in fact already worked in the Supercars organization. In 2015, he was appointed racing director of the Super2 Series (the 2e echelon of Australian Tourism) before being promoted to the same position in Supercars the following year. He then moved to the FIA side until taking the position of race director following the death of Charlie Whiting in 2018.
