Fabian Coulthard offered its first success in 2019 in Supercars, by winning the second race of the Phillip Island meeting in Australia.
The end of a bad series for the DJR Team Penske driver, who had not tasted the joys of victory since last May and a victory at Winton, letting his teammate Scott McLaughlin, titled last year in the Australian series, shine .
Although McLaughlin had dominated the first part of the event from pole position, Coulthard took the advantage during the first round of pit stops, with McLaughlin remaining within reach until the finish.
DJR Team Penske signs another double this season, McLaughlin and Coulthard consolidating their first two places in the general classification.
The podium is completed by Anton De Pasquale (Erebus Motorsport – Holden), his first in the category. Will Davison (23Red Racing – Ford) finished 4th ahead of Chaz Mostert and Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing – Ford).
The latter were engaged on a different strategy after the first stop, Tickford having chosen not to carry out a full fuel tank. A strategy that paid off for a while, Mostert and Waters taking the advantage over the Mustangs – DJR Team Penske, but ultimately not rewarded.
The best Holden Commodore in the world Red Bull Holden Racing appears in 7th place with Shane van Gisbergen, while Jamie Whincup could not do better than 12th.
