Fabian Coulthard ahead of Scott McLaughlin in Perth in C1

The start of the first Supercars SuperNight race in Perth, Scott McLaughlin intends to quickly forget it. The outgoing champion of the series, author of pole position at the wheel of his DJR Team Penske Ford Mustang, seriously missed his start this Friday, leaving the spotlight to his teammate Fabian Coulthard, future winner of the race.

Falling back to fourth place after the first meters, McLaughlin began his comeback on the third lap by overtaking Chaz Mostert (Tickford Racing – Ford), but without then being able to take the advantage over Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Holden Racing – Holden Commodore).

At the front, Coulthard controlled the proceedings and remained in the lead after the pit stops, and remained out of reach of his pursuers who could only fight for the last two places on the podium.

The driver of the No. 12 Ford Mustang ultimately won ahead of McLaughlin, who had managed to overtake Whincup thanks to his stop, before resisting an attack from the seven-time Supercars champion.

The latter will lose another position against Chaz Mostert, who completes a Ford hat-trick. Whincup and his teammate Shane van Gisbergen enter the top 5.

In the general classification, Coulthard takes the opportunity to come back to 112 points behind McLaughlin before the second race of this weekend at Barbagallo Raceway, scheduled for tomorrow Saturday after another qualifying.
