McLaughlin and van Gisbergen winners at The Bend

Almost in one breath, Shane van Gisbergen took victory in Race 2 at The Bend this Sunday after a great battle against Andre Heimgartner and Scott McLaughlin.

The pilot of the Red Bull Holden Racing Team took the lead at the first corner before securing the crown in the pit stop game. If Chaz Mostert and Scott McLaughlin attempted the undercut by stopping on the 5th and 6th laps respectively, Shane van Gisbergen delayed his pit stop until the 15th lap.

A choice that paid off since its fresher tires allowed it to get rid of its rivals one after the other. From then on, he moved back into the lead of the race and was no longer caught. At the finish, Shane van Gisbergen beat Andre Heimgartner, author of a great maneuver on Chaz Mostert to take second place, and Scott McLaughlin. The three drivers crossed the finish line with less than two seconds difference.

Starting from pole, the DJR Team Penske driver had no trouble securing his 11th victory of the season. Well helped by his teammate Fabian Coulthard, the New Zealander was able to keep his opponents at bay to never be worried during this final meeting of the weekend.

Thus, Scott McLaughlin and Fabian Coulthard offered a double to DJR Team Penske which further establishes its domination in the team rankings. Jamie Whincup completed the podium.

Thanks to this success, Scott McLaughlin widens the gap a little further in the championship. Alone in the lead, he is now 215 points ahead of Jamie Whincup and 485 over Cameron Waters. Fabian Coulthard is 6th, 618 units behind the leader.
