Percat and Le Brocq winners this Sunday in Sydney

It was again the tire strategies which decided the outcome of this Sunday's two races in Sydney in Supercars. 3rd on the grid for race 2, Nick Percat (Brad Jones Racing – Holden) made the choice to carry out his two stints on soft tyres, a move that paid off against the first leader Shane van Gisbergen (Red Bull Holden Racing – Holden).

The New Zealander tried to stretch his first stint on track as much as possible, while the Brad Jones Racing driver opted for a new tire throw, giving him significantly more performance in the second part of the event.

Successful strategy since Percat could take advantage of its soft tires, when Red Bull Holden Racing relaunched SVG on hard compounds, leaving the Kiwi unable to fight on equal terms. Percar finally won with a 9″ lead over Fabian Coulthard and almost 20″ over Scott McLaughlin (DJR Team Penske – Ford), the latter having started from pole.

The last confrontation of the weekend allowed Jack Le Brocq (Tickford Racing – Ford) to enter the winner's circle in Supercars. One of the drivers who managed to keep two sets of soft tires for this race, Le Brocq took advantage of his pit stop on the 11th lap, taking the advantage over leader André Heimgartner (Kelly Racing – Ford), who pitted one lap later, but unable to resist on cold tires at Le Brocq.

From then on, the 28-year-old driver will control the rest of the race to win ahead of Heimgartner and Todd Hazelwood (Brad Jones Racing). The regulars in the top places were unable to shine due to a lack of soft tires, Shane van Gisbergen finishing 12th, Scott McLaughlin 14th.
