Scott McLaughlin scores double in Adelaide

Scott McLaughlin couldn't have asked for a better start to the season with DJR Team Penske's all-new Ford Mustang. The defending champion won the second race of the Adelaide event in Australia, beating Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing – Ford) and Shane van Gisbergen (Red Bull Holden Racing – Holden Commodore).

The latter proved to be the fiercest opponent of McLaughlin at the start, the two rivals crossing the first chicane door to door, before McLaughlin took the advantage and quickly widened the gap.

If van Gisbergen stopped first during the first round of pit stops, McLaughlin retained the advantage, Cameron Waters on the other hand having managed to seize second place from van Gisbergen.

The entry into action of the safety car following the stop of Jack LeBrocq (Tekno Autosports – Holden) will then be followed by an incident in the pit lane, when most of the drivers rush to return to the pit lane. pitlane.

A contact between Chaz Mostert (Tickford Racing) and Rick Kelly (Kelly Racing – Nissan) will cause a virtual traffic jam in the pits, but without consequences for the leader, who will return to the pitlane a little later.

The leading trio will no longer change, thus offering a nice double to the new Mustang of the title holder's DJR Team Penske. Behind Waters and van Gisbergen, Tim Slade and Nick Percat placed the Brad Jones Racing Holdens in the top 5.

Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Holden Racing) finished 7th behind Mark Winterbottom (Charlie Schwerkolt Racing / Irwin Racing – Holden).

Excluded from the qualifying ShootOut, mechanics having intervened just before his turn, Fabian Coulthard (DJR Team Penske) only finished 20th.
