Supercars-C1: Scott McLaughlin finally wins in 2017

Recruited for 2017 by DJR Team Penske and logically placed among the favorites to play leading roles, Scott McLaughlin however, was unable to make this season a reality in Supercars.

Author of three poles before this weekend, and three best laps in the race, the New Zealander had only signed two second places as best results in Adelaide and Tasmania.

This Saturday in Perth, on the Barbagallo track, the driver of the Ford Falcon FG X from the team of Roger Penske and Dick Johnson finally found the right formula to cross the finish line first.

Author of a better start than his teammate Fabian Coulthard, although placed in pole position, Scott McLaughlin set the pace throughout the first part of the event, building up a sufficient lead to avoid any pressure from Coulthard.

On the 24th lap, McLaughlin stopped a lap after his teammate, after misunderstood a radio order telling him to attack and not go back.

A poor communication ultimately paid off since McLaughlin started again in front of Coulthard and finally regained control of the race after the cars that had not yet stopped had passed through the pits.

The duo offers a new double for DJR Team Penske, the podium being completed by Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Holden Racing Team – Holden Commodore).

The champion in title Shane van Gisbergen (Red Bull Holden Racing Team) got the better of Chaz Mostert (Rod Nash Racing – Ford Falcon) at the end of the race and finished 4th.

Mostert finally finished sixth, after losing another position to Mark Winterbottom (Prodrive Racing Australia – Ford Falcon).

Simona de Silvestro (Nissan Motorsport – Nissan Altima) took 23rd place, two positions ahead of Matthew Brabham (Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport – Holden Commodore), for her debut in the discipline.
