With their success yesterday in the first round of the Gold Coast 600, Shane van Gisbergen and Alexandre Prémat (Red Bull Racing Australia – Holden Commodore) had carried out a great operation, both in terms of the championship for the New Zealand driver and for winning the 2016 Enduro Cup, which brings together the three events of the Sandown 500, Bathurst 1000 and the Gold Coast 600.
But this Sunday, Jamie Whincup, and his teammate Paul Dumbrell (Red Bull Racing Australia – Holden Commodore), were too strong at Surfers Paradise. After taking pole position, the six-time Supercars champion and his accomplice dominated this second event of the weekend without contest, and finally finished ahead of the van Gisbergen – Prémat duo, well back after having lost time during the intervention of the safety car on lap 16, following a problem for the Ford Falcon of Richie Stanaway.
The podium is completed by Scott Mc Laughlin and David Wall (GRM – Volvo S60). With their second place, Shane van Gisbergen and Alexandre Prémat win the Enduro Cup. The New Zealander is 148 points ahead of Jamie Whincup before the final in Auckland on home soil (November 4-6).
