Supercars – Davison and Webb win Bathurst 1000

Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell looked likely to win at the wheel of the #88 Holden Commodore of the Red Bull Racing Australia this weekend at the Bathurst 1000. The duo dominated the first part of the event, without almost any incident, before events took a turn for the worse after the 92nd lap.

The accident of Andrew Jones (Brad Jones Racing), the exploded engine of James Moffat (Garry Rogers Motorsports), then the exit of the Ford Falcon FG-X of Mark Winterbottom (Prodrive Racing Australia) largely disrupted the progress of the race .

As he passed through the pits under Safety-Car, Jamie Whincup found himself battling with Scott McLaughlin (Volvo S60 – GRM) and Garth Tander (Holden Commodore – HRT). The six-time champion will first come into contact with McLaughlin's Volvo, the latter going onto the grass.

Obviously wanting to let the New Zealander pass, Whincup will slow down and Garth Tander will immediately hit McLaughlin, the two cars losing all chance. Whincup, found responsible for the accident, will be penalized 15″, and will also leave any hope of victory.

If the Holden Red Bull crossed the finish line in the lead, it was ultimately the Holden Commodore of Tekno Autosports of Will Davison and Jonathon Webb who won just ahead of the No. 97 Holden Commodore of Shane van Gisbergen and Alexandre Prémat (Red Bull Racing Australia), for one of the closest finishes in the history of the event.

The podium is completed by a third Holden Commodore, that of Nick Percat and Cameron McConville. Note that Simona de Silvestro and Renee Gracie (Nissan Altima – Harvey Norman Supergirls) finished in 14th place.
