Beaten in the pole exercise, Shane van Gisbergen (Triple Eight) started on the first row just behind his teammate Jamie Whincup.
Like last weekend, already in Townsville, the two members of Triple Eight dominated this 2nd round of the meeting. Coming out in the lead at the first braking, Jamie Whincup was able to hold SVG behind him until the first round of pit stops. Moment chosen by Shane van Gisbergen to attack.
Passing through his pit box first, Jamie Whincup gambled on changing three wheels on the 17th lap while the championship leader only changed two a lap later. A profitable choice for the latter who returned to the track at the head of the race.

A big battle followed between the two men for several laps but Jamie Whincup, poleman of the day, never managed to find an opening on a Shane van Gisbergen with an impeccable defense. The Kiwi will then cross the line first to achieve his 11th success of the season.

Winner of the opening Sunday race, Shane van Gisbergen was unable to double the lead, the fault of Cameron Waters.
On pole for the last of the weekend in Townsville, the Tickford Racing driver made a good start keeping the New Zealander behind him. Under pressure, Cameron Waters cracked on the 5th lap and saw his Triple Eight rival slip past him at the penultimate corner of the track. At the controls, Shane van Gisbergen then managed the race perfectly until the intervention of the Safety Car on the 18th lap after the exit of Macauley Jones (Brad Jones Racing).

With the cards folded, SVG lost the lead of the race during refueling under safety car regime to the detriment of its rival of the day.

Now in the position of the hunted, Cameron Waters must face an unleashed Shane van Gisbergen behind him. And despite his opponent's numerous attempts, the driver of the No. 6 Ford Mustang held on until the checkerboard to win his 3rd victory of the season, the 5th of his career, with a lead of only 9 tenths!
