Whincup to conclude in Newcastle, DJR Team Penske titled

This final round of the 2019 Supercars championship had the main challenge the awarding of the Teams title between DJR Team Penske and Red Bull Holden Racing. The latter strong, with six victories in the last six races before this race, including yesterday's with Shane van Gisbergen, still had a slim hope.

And for once, the formation of Roland Dane will have nothing to reproach itself, with Jamie Whincup's victory, started from pole position and won at the finish line. The six-time champion notably lengthened his first stint and took advantage of this opportune strategy when the safety car came into action, to return to the pit lane.

Facing him, Scott McLaughlin (DJR Team Penske – Ford Mustang) and Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing – Ford), having stopped earlier in the event, found themselves at the front but with a clear disadvantage in terms of the fuel strategy.

In fact, during the second round of pit stops, Whincup logically regained the lead of the race, before finishing ahead of Fabian Coulthard (DJR Team Penske). The latter's second place allows his team to secure the Teams crown.

The podium is completed by Tim Slade (Brad Jones Racing – Holden).
