Andy Soucek celebrates his title

Andy Soucek only qualified in third position on the grid but, thanks to an excellent start, the Spaniard was able to take the lead by infiltrating between Mirko Bortolotti and Robert Wickens, the pole sitter, who takes Soucek's wheel. Behind, the damage is already there. Mikhail Aleshin made a mistake alongside Jens Hoing, which required the deployment of the safety car. While the latter maintains a slow pace while clearing the cars, Pietro Gandolfi tries to keep his tires warm but skids, hitting Natacha Gachnang's car. The Swiss, cousin of Sébastien Buemi, gets out of her seat very angry and comes to demand accountability from the Italian driver, before being calmed down by a track marshal.

At the front, everything is going well for Andy Soucek. The Spaniard did not manage to escape but kept his lead over his rivals, notably the Canadian Robert Wickens. Further on, there is no shortage of track excursions, the Imola circuit being full of traps for the drivers. Ten drivers ended up giving up, notably the unfortunate Julien Jousse, who had little success this weekend. This massacre allowed certain drivers to get into the top 8, such as Jolyon Palmer, Jason Moore and German Sanchez.

But, after thirty minutes of racing, and despite the efforts of Robert Wickens, it was Andy Soucek who won. Champion of Formula 2 Since this Saturday, the Spaniard has been celebrating his title in the most beautiful way. However, there are two races remaining this season and Soucek will be able to be welcomed there with honors. It is in fact in his native country, in Barcelona, that the last round of this first season of new F2 formula will be contested, on October 30 and November 1. Until then, many drivers will take advantage of these six weeks to already turn towards the quest for a steering wheel for 2010.
