Bianchi, a “without” weekend

The Niçois, winner of six of the twelve races in the discipline, arrived in Great Britain with a lead of 25 points over Christian Vietoris, being temporarily protected from a return from the German.

But, a mistake in qualifying can be very costly and deprive the driver of points for the weekend. This is what happened to Jules Bianchi, the ART Grand Prix driver making a mistake at the start of the session. Author of the provisional best time, the Frenchman saw his opponents erase his time, placing him on the eighth row on the starting grid for the first race. “ For once the free practice sessions went very well!, confides Jules Bianchi. But a small mistake in qualifying had big consequences since I only did one lap before going off the track and I found myself very far back on the grid. »

From then on, by starting far from the race lead, the Frenchman had little chance of scoring points. However, he managed to move up to 12th position, then coming up against Tiago Geronimi. “ The objective was to get back into the top eight in the first race, confirms Bianchi. I tried to pass Geronimi outside Paddock Hill Bend. It looked good at first but he took me to the outside and I had no other option than to go on the dirt. It ended in a big accident and I was a little dizzy when I got out of the car. » The accident between the two men even pushed the organizers to interrupt the race, only to have it resume three hours later.

During the second race, Sunday, Jules Bianchi had neither the hope of scoring points, nor even that of finishing the race, due to the accident and the shock of the day before. “ My neck hurt and I only did a few laps to check that the car was healthy before the trip to Portimao because there was no point in taking risks while weakened. »
