C2 – Piastri crowned in Formula Renault Eurocup despite Martins’ success

Victor Martins (MP Motorsport) will have done everything, but the task was too difficult. Author of a ninth pole position in his 2019 Formula season Renault Eurocup (record of Scott Speed and Sacha Fenestraz equaled), the 18-year-old Frenchman wanted to challenge the leadership ofOscar piastri (R-ace GP) in Abu Dhabi.

Unfortunately for the native of Essonne, the Australian maturely managed his lead of 20,5 points in the general classification. Starting second, Oscar Piastri did not want to risk his skin during duels with Lorenzo Colombo (MP Motorsport) then Caio Collet (R-ace GP) at the start of the effort.

Having fallen to fourth place, he kept this place until the end while Victor Martins continued the qualifying laps to isolate himself in the lead. This sixth victory ensures the Frenchman the position of vice-champion.

For Oscar Piastri, it is quite simply his first single-seater title, after a second position in British Formula 4 in 2017 with Arden. Note the fifth place in Race 2 of the Italian Matteo Nannini, who is none other than the nephew of the former driver of Formula 1 Alessandro Nannini.
