F3-C1: Marciello escapes at Red Bull Ring

William Buller may have taken pole in Race 1, but the Carlin driver quickly had to hand over control of the event to Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) who started alongside him on the front row. Despite the interruption at the end of the race, the driver of the Ferrari Driver Academy crossed the line as winner and now has a 16-point lead over direct rival and teammate Daniel Juncadella. The Spaniard was in third place before receiving a drive-through with five other drivers for failing to respect the yellow flags and ultimately finished seventh.

Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport) and Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin) complete the podium behind the Championship leader. Carlos Sainz Jr appeared to be on his way to the final step but the Spaniard retired after losing control of his Dallara by going wide at the final corner. His race ended with a collision against the pit wall, forcing the safety car to come out. Sven Müller (Prema Powerteam) and Tom Blomqvist (ma-con Motorsport) complete the top five ahead of Michael Lewis (Prema Powerteam).

The start of Race 2 will be given at 17:15 p.m.
