F3 – A Ferrari F1 test for the 3 F2013 winner

The winner of the European championship Formula 3 will therefore be, in addition to the European title, rewarded with a test at the wheel of a Ferrari F1 at the end of the season. A decision which seems welcome, whereas now, the lack of driving of young drivers before accessing F1 is increasingly being singled out.

Gerhard Berger, President of the FIA single-seater commission and who last week criticized shortcomings in the rise of young people to F1, was delighted with this announcement: “Our objective with the re-establishment of a European F3 Championship is to enable the emergence of the best talents. For a young driver, Formula 1 is necessarily the ultimate goal. This is why it seemed important to us to be able to reward the Champion with a ride in F1. We are very pleased to have concluded this agreement with Scuderia Ferrari via its training program, the Ferrari Driver Academy. The opportunities for a pilot to settle aboard such a car are rare. This is a great opportunity that the 2013 winner will have the chance to seize, in order to learn further, but also to get noticed and demonstrate that the F1 drivers of tomorrow are in F3 today. »

Same opinion from Luca Baldisserri, Head of the Ferrari Driver Academy: “In the eyes of the Ferrari Driver Academy, Formula 3 is excellent preparation and all drivers should go through it because the unique balance between grip and power is perfect for learning to get the most out of a single-seater. This is why we decided to reward the champion with what is every driver's dream, that is to say a day at the wheel of a Scuderia Ferrari F1 car. »
