F3 – Werhlein wins Race 2 in the rain at Monza (MAJ)

Third in the first race on Saturday, German Pascal Werhlein climbed two steps in the second to take his first victory of the season at Monza, Italy. In difficult conditions, in the rain, the Mücke Motorsport driver won ahead of the first winner of the year, the Italian Raffaele Marcillo of the Prema Powerteam. Tom Blomqvist (Eurointenational) completes the podium.

Leader from the start, Pascal Werhlein built a comfortable lead against his closest pursuer, Raffaele Marcillo, before making an incursion into the gravel. But on the 11th lap of a fierce battle, the German would regain his place in the Ascari chicane.

Note that this second race was seriously disrupted by a huge crash that occurred in the last minutes of the event. At the very end of the long pit straight, at the chicane Rettifilo, Mans Grenhagen (Van Amersfoort Racing) completely missed his braking before hitting Jordan King violently and at high speed then bouncing off the car of Briton William Buller (ThreeBond with T-Sport). Propelled into the air, the Swede rolled several times before seeing his F3 stopped. Fortunately, all the drivers were able to escape from their cars on their own. Forced to suspend the race, the safety car came into play, thus freezing the classification until the checkered flag.

Luis Felipe Derani was penalized at the end of Race 2 of the F3 European Championship for not having respected a black/orange flag indicating the driver to return to the pits following a mechanical problem deemed dangerous by the stewards. The Fortec Motorsports driver thus received a 10-second penalty and lost his ninth place to fall to 19th place. Sven Muller (ma-con) recovers the Brazilian's position while Dennis Van der Laar completes the new top ten.

The third and final F3 race of this weekend will take place this Sunday at 16:05 p.m.
