Arthur Leclerc and Prema take pole in Budapest

Arthur Leclerc (Prema) scored his second success of the season this Friday in Budapest. A few weeks after winning his first victory in Formula 3 During Race 2 of the Castellet meeting, the Monegasque took his first pole position in the category on the Hungaroring turnstile on Friday.

Charles' brother in fact set the best mark of the session after the first of two bursts of fast laps. He was ahead of his championship leader teammate Dennis Hauger (Prema/+0”089), still devilishly consistent. Jack Doohan (Trident/+0 »096) completes the top 3 by dominating a nice Trident group shot in front of David Schumacher and Clement Novalak.

Difficult session for Martins and MP Motorsport

Second in the championship, the Dane Frédérik Vesti (ART Grand Prix) only ranks 7th, behind his teammate Alexander Smolyar, establishing a real hierarchy at the team level since the start of the day. Third in the championship last year, Logan sargeant once again succeeded in placing his car Charouz in the top 10 (9th). His French teammate Reshad de Gerus ranked 27th.

For Victor Martins and his MP Motorsport team, on the other hand, it's a grimace. Twenty-eighth in practice on Friday morning, the Habs and their Dutch team did not find a way to get into the rhythm on a track that the Ile-de-France native has nevertheless tamed in Formula Renault in 2018. The pilot Alpine indeed finished 24th in the session, just ahead of his teammate Caio Collet. The two men will be forced to make a big comeback in race 1 to grab the top 12 and the reverse grid for C2.

Twelfth in the qualifying session, Jonny Edgar (Carlin) will start in pole position on Saturday morning in C1. He will start in front of Lorenzo Colombo (Campos) and his partner at Red Bull, Ayumu Iwasa (Hitech). Note that Arthur Leclerc will start from 15th position, since he will serve his penalty received in Austria after the incident in the main race.
