Austin on the F3 calendar

The news broke several days ago, F3 will no longer run alongside F2 from 2021. The calendar, unveiled this Tuesday by the promoter, is therefore completely different from that of the Formula 2, also revealed today. It has seven weekends (instead of the usual nine) during which three races will be contested.

The first six rounds will take place in Europe and the big start of the season will not be given until May, two months after the first laps of Formula 2, in Barcelona, on a circuit that the drivers know well. F3 will return to Le Castellet, in the Var, after racing there in 2019.

The future Formula 3 drivers will then take the usual routes, with Austria, Hungary and Belgium. For the most part, however, they will discover the new route of Zandvoort, in the Netherlands. The formula Renault Eurocup raced there this year and those promoted in this category will have a definite advantage.

Finally for the first time since the recent creation of the championship in 2019, F3 will leave European borders. This was to be the case last season since the Bahrain round was supposed to open the ball for 2020 before ultimately the postponement of the Grand Prix and the cancellation for F3. In 2021, F3 will go even further since the title could be played in Austin, Texas.

The calendar :

May 7-9: Barcelona
June 25-27: Le Castellet
July 2-4: Austria
July 30-August 1: Hungary
August 27-29: Spa-Francorchamps
September 3-5: Zandvoort
October 22-24: Austin (USA)
