Eurocup: Martins equals his own pole record

There will still be three meetings left after this Belgian round, but Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) has already equaled his own pole position record. By signing his second pole of the weekend – his fourth in a row after having already won everything in Barcelona two weeks ago – this Friday in the rain at Spa-Francorchamps, the Frenchman brought his total to nine leading positions in 2020, equaling his own mark from 2019, and those of Sacha Fenestraz in 2017 and Scott Speed in 2000.

The Frenchman will therefore also start at the front in race 1, this Friday afternoon (14:25 p.m.). The ART Grand Prix driver will also be satisfied to see his main rival in the championship, the Brazilian Caio Collet (R-ace GP), having only set the 11th fastest time in qualifying, 2”3 from pole, his worst session since the start of the season. Victor Martins will in fact be accompanied by the Belgian Ugo De Wilde (Arden, +0 »5) on the front row, and will therefore try to increase his lead at the top of the championship.

Good performance also for his two French compatriots Hadrien David (MP Motorsport, +2”0) and Reshad de Gerus (Arden, +2”0), 9th and 10th. The French F4 champion spent a long time in the Top 5 before finally finishing 9th, while De Gerus achieved his best qualification of the year by grabbing the Top 10. 3rd in the championship, David Vidales (JD Motorsport, +3 »0) is once again qualified outside the Top 10, and will have a lot to do in the race to try to catch up.
