F3 Asia: Zhou takes a step towards the title, Chovet abandons

A few minutes before hitting the track for the C2, the race direction updated the results of the C1 contested on Friday. While he had won his second victory of the winter, Patrik Pasma (Evans GP) was finally penalized for excessive speed under the yellow flag in sector 3, giving Guanyu-Zhou (Abu Dhabi Racing Team) an important success in the title race.

There were therefore only two races left for the Chinese to hope to regain 17 points from championship leader Pierre-Louis Chovet (Pinnacle). But after the first of the day's two races, the driver Alpine did even better: he regained 18 by taking control of the championship for a small point, after his second place behind Patrik Pasma (Evans GP).

He will therefore enter the last race of the championship in a leading position and will also have the advantage of starting from pole while Pierre-Louis Chovet will start from 6th place. And if the Chinese made such a comeback in the standings, it is mainly because the Habs were forced to retire after only five minutes of racing. Starting in 7th position in the heart of a dense pack, PLC was apparently caught by Roman Stanek (Hitech).

Note that Guanyu Zhou is under investigation for having left the limits of the track by going around a cone while taking advantage of the situation. But if the Chinese is penalized, this should be the case for almost the entire top 10, since almost everyone has done the same thing at least once. The last race of the championship will take place this Saturday at 11:25 a.m. We will know who, Zhou or Chovet, wins the title of champion.
