F3: Bianchi wins the title

Jules Bianchi, on Saturday, was not satisfied with his performance. Starting in pole position, the Frenchman had to give in to Christian Vietoris during a restart. Having finished second behind the German, the Brignolais was unable to celebrate an almost acquired championship title. So, this Sunday, he only needed one point to secure this reward, without taking into account the result of his rival from Mücke Motorsport.

But Jules Bianchi did not want to stop there. Starting seventh, the Frenchman attacked with his foot on the floor and found himself in third place behind Alexander Sims and Sam Bird. The positions are then frozen after the interruption of the race, following the pile-up at the start notably involving the French Tom Dillmann and Jean-Karl Vernay.

At the restart, after a long interruption, the horses were released again, even though there were only twenty minutes of racing remaining and only three laps had been completed. The ART Grand Prix driver quickly got the better of Sam Bird and found himself in second position.

After sticking to the wheels of Alexander Sims, Jules Bianchi managed to overtake him and take control of the race, with the hoped-for goal of winning the championship title with a victory. It was done after only twenty laps of the Dijon-Prenois circuit. The Frenchman can raise his arms and celebrate his victory.

In two seasons, the grandson of Mauro Bianchi has shown all his talent in the Formula 3 Euro Series field. Third in 2008, the Frenchman is champion this year, succeeding Nico Hulkenberg. The two ART Grand Prix drivers have impressed this season, winning the title in two major motorsport disciplines, and scoring a lot of points in their bid to secure a place in the premier single-seater category, the Formula 1.

« I am very very happy to have won the title, declared Jules Bianchi at the foot of the podium. After yesterday?s race which wasn?t really satisfactory, it?s great to clinch the title with a victory. I absolutely wanted to win one of the two French events, which is why I sometimes took the risk of possibly leaving the circuit. But everything went well and I'm super happy. »
