F3 – Carlin: Nelson’s presence would have been stimulating

Announced on the fourth car of the Carlin team, Nelson Piquet Jr will ultimately not be involved after the decision of the FIA single-seater commission not to authorize the champion Formula e in title to compete in the Pau meeting of the European Championship of F3.

A decision explained by Stefano Domenicali, president of the commission, but which struggles to convince Trevor Carlin, boss of the team from across the Channel, who was quick to speak out following the FIA press release.

“I think it’s a huge loss for this weekend’s event that Nelson is not allowed to race, adds the Briton. Having been directly involved in the management of Formula 3 teams for 30 years, I am more than aware that Formula 3 has importance in the development of young drivers.

Nelson's one-off participation this weekend would have been stimulating for the drivers around him and would have shed a positive light on the championship and the drivers. In no way was this intended to discredit the championship or its ethics. We thank Nelson for his positive attitude and wish him the best of luck for the remainder of his season. »

The Brazilian, lined up during the 6 Hours of Spa with Rebellion Racing in WEC, will return to Swiss training during the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 18-19) and will continue its involvement in Formula e with NEXTEV China Racing on May 21 in Berlin, Germany.
