F3 – Fenestraz joins Carlin

The Franco-Argentinian Sacha fenestraz will experience its first full season of Formula 3 as part of the FIA European Championship in 2018. Winner of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup last season, Sacha Fenestraz will be fielded by the British team Carlin, champion in 2017 with Lando Norris.

In parallel with his activities in the Eurocup last year, the former French Formula 4 Junior champion tried his hand at driving a Formula 3, during the Nürburgring round in September, already with Carlin. But it's during the Macau Grand Prix, a few weeks later, that the 18-year-old pilot distinguished himself. For his first participation, a 7th place rewarded error-free driving. Its arrival on the narrow urban circuit is already recorded for 2018.

Obviously, the brother-in-law of José Maria Lopez (three-time WTCC champion) appreciated this taste of F3. “From my first laps, I really liked the behavior and aerodynamic efficiency of the Formula 3. It’s a car incredible, almost perfect. I understand why the pilots of F1 love him. It is fast in turns and in a straight line. Finally, the support is much more important than in Formula Renault. It changes ", he admits.

The pilot and his boss Trevor Carlin worked together to aim for the same objective: « aim for first place in the Rookies and obtain the best possible result in the Championship”, even if “a few circuits (are) to discover. This is a bit of a challenge, but we will work hard to meet it”, assures the Franco-Argentinian. “As a rookie, he performed very well in Macau and he had a very good race”, continues Trevor Carlin. “We know he has the potential to do great things, as he proved this year in the Formula Renault Eurocup. We have no doubt about his level of competitiveness from the start of next season. »

Between now and the first round of F3 Europe in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, May 12-13), Sacha Fenestraz will not be idle; with his integration into the Renault Sport Academy, he will complete several simulator and physical training sessions.
