F3 – Update on the accident at the Red Bull Ring

Race 1 of the F3 European Championship at Red Bull Ring (Austria) was interrupted following an impressive accident involving Zhi Cong Li, Ryan Tveter and Pedro Piquet.

While Ryan Tveter was stopped on the track following a spin, his car was hit at full speed by Zhi Cong li who found himself propelled several meters into the air before falling on Pedro Piquet's car.

While one driver (whose identity has not been confirmed by officials) lost consciousness, Ryan Tveter and Zhi Cong Li were conscious when they arrived at the medical center.

The Chinese man was taken to hospital by helicopter. Pilot Carlin suffers several fractures to his foot which will require surgery. The Chinese man also suffered four fractured vertebrae, but surgery will not be necessary.
